October 2014 Events

Looking for something to do this weekend? We have you covered. There are lots of fun events, including fall festivals, hiking ideas, farmers markets, and more included in our Fall Guide to Arizona

In addition, here are a few more events coming up this month for you. A couple of them are included in the Fall Guide, and others are not:



Arizona State Fair It's opening weekend at the Arizona State Fair! Opening Day admission is only $2 until 5:00 PM, or spend $40 at Fry's and get 2 free tickets. Kids under 5 are free, adults $10, kids ages 5-13 and seniors 55+ are $5, but there are LOTS of ways to get deals at the fair. One of our favorites is the Read and Ride, a program where kids can read 3 books and get 3 ride tickets for free. The Fair is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Check their website for events and other deals

Scottsdale Film Festival
Films begin today, October 9 and run through Monday. With a numerous collection of national and international films, including animated children's films, there is something for everyone. Single ticket pricing is available, as well as bundle-pricing to view multiple films.
Today's films will be shown at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Starting tomorrow, films are shown at Harkins Shea 14 Theater, 7354 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale.  

Tempe Oktoberfest 
Friday, October 10 - Sunday, October 12 at Tempe Town Lake. Carnival games, live music, wiener dog races, beer garden, and lots more. Free admission, pay for food, carnival games, etc. 

FreeFall Fridays at the Mesa Arts Center 
Free outdoor concert every Friday through November 21. Two sets played from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM then 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM. 

Fitness in the District 
Every Tuesday, September 23 - October 28 from 6:30 PM -7:30 PM
Head to Westgate in Glendale for FREE weekly fitness classes. Each week is a unique combination including kickboxing, pilates, yoga, and dance. Fitness in the District is family-friendly—all ages are welcome. Please bring your own mat. Refreshments will be provided. Plus, win great giveaways at each event. 

Parque de los Muertos 
Day of the Dead is the theme for City of Mesa's 3rd Friday park event this month. 
Friday, October 17 from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. The event includes food, live music, mariachi, folklorico, and activities for kids. 

Phoenix Dia de los Muertos Festival
Sunday, October 26 from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Free festival with masked entertainers, musicians, dance, theater, food, arts activities, and candlelight procession.


Dia de Los Muertos Festival at the Mesa Arts Center
From 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 25 and from 12:00 noon - 5:00 PM Sunday, October 26. Free festival including food, a colorful mercado, live entertainment, and more.
